Craig Elliott labelled his Boston United squad 'outstanding' after they returned from two weeks of self isolation to secure a 3-2 victory over AFC Telford United.

Jordan Thewlis, Jordan Burrow and Scott Garner all took their tallies to two goals for the campaign as the Bucks' unbeaten start to the National League North season ended at the Northolme. And the fact that United did so after just one training session following a fortnight of inactivity due to positive COVID-19 tests made the manager all the more proud.

"Looking at Telford, they're going to be up there come the end of the season," Elliott said.

"Just to get a victory today was the main thing, more than the performance. I'm usually all about the performance at this stage of the season, but the two weeks we've had, getting the win was the more important thing.

"There's six players here that's had COVID for the past two weeks, they've not trained, they've been ill.

"So to come back with a session on Thursday and play today, I can't speak highly enough of them. They've been outstanding."

Boston set the early pace before Aaron Williams opened the scoring with a thunderbolt.

"It was a great goal from them that changed the game, but we showed good bits of character to get the win and I'm really proud of the players," Elliott added.

Boston then stormed into a 3-1 lead before Jason Oswell teed up a nervy ending with another fine strike.

"I think it was an even match, chances at both ends and two good teams going at it," Elliott added.

"We've got some good players, this is what we need to be about."

Theo Streete looked to have earned a point in stoppage time, only to be denied by a fine save from Ross Fitzsimons.

"That's what he's there for," Elliott said.

"They put a lot of balls into the box and they're a physical team., But he came for crosses and made saves at the right time - and that's why we brought him to the club."
