Darry Stamp calls on Gainsborough Trinity players to come out fighting

Trinity were beaten 2-0 at home to Curzon Ashton as their miserable run goes on.

“We’re not happy in the dressing room. We conceded two goals and could have done an awful lot better with,” he said.

“Again, people have held their hands up and accepted responsibility, but it’s happening every week now. We need to cut them out.”

“We huffed and puffed, and created a few bits here and there - but for me the disappointing thing was, they wanted it more than we did and I have just said in the dressing room - that should hurt us, it should hurt us that they were willing to go that extra yard, and that’s not us, it’s not the lads at all.

“A few home truths have been told in the dressing room - and we now expect a reaction.

“We need to be careful, otherwise we are going to be looking over our shoulders, and that has never been on our minds before now, not in the slightest.

“We have always been aiming for top ten. That’s what we have been aiming for and is what we continue to look for.

“Losing four games on the bounce and dropping down to 13th place is a shock, but only we can put it right, it’s down to the players to pull fingers out - because at the end of the day, contracts are on the line, livelihoods are at stake.

“We need to start going the extra yard and really try to get every last drop from the boys.

“We haven’t had anyone in there (the dressing room) that doesn’t want to be part of things. We have had the discussions in there and everyone is committed to getting it right and achieving the highest possible finish for Gainsborough Trinity.

“We always try to go out, to put on a performance for the fans. The two games prior to tonight (Tuesday) have been good, (away at Stockport and Solihull) we just haven’t had the results that performances have perhaps deserved.

“We just need things to click into place, but come Saturday, I can guarantee there will be nothing left out there, by any of the players.

“We will be working on starting better, except for Solihull we have gone behind early in halves, we need to be better mentally, know our jobs, particularly first five-ten minutes, turn the opposition, start well - and just not be opened up so easily.”

Trinity return to action at home to Nuneaton on Saturday.
