Diagonals remain unbeaten away

WOODBECK Diagonals returned from Netherfield Colts with a point, and their unbeaten away record intact, following a 2-2 draw.

Netherfield, themselves unbeaten in the league, played three up front and went on the attack right from the start.

Diagonals made several changes from the win at Southwell and contained Netherfield to shooting from distance.

One such effort had Zac Dilly at full stretch but the ball dropped behind into the goal.

He soon made amends with a goal kick that bounced once and found striker Sam Hutchinson who climbed higher than the keeper to glance it into an empty net.

Connor Lambe excelled down the right to put the wing back under constant pressure.

In the second half the game became end to end with both keepers busy.

Diagonals looked the likliest to score and so it was with a cross from the right which found Alec Mcleod who headed the ball cleanly into the roof of the net.

Diagonals then went to kill the game off but Netherfield through stout defending and intervals of injuries and victims of cramp were able stall the Diagonals onslaught and in the latter stages were rewarded.

A speculative long range shot flew right in the bottom corner of the goal.

The last 10 minutes then had Diagonals holding on but full-back Rhyse Kirton was heroic as he made several last ditch challenges to make sure Diagonals got the deserved point.
