Roma said: “I enjoyed it today and I said to the lads in their, we restricted a team that we’re in the play offs to 30 yard efforts and the odd scrappy chance so I thought they were brilliant today, they put in a shift, tracked the runners like we asked, kept our shape like we asked and I am absolutely over the moon.

“Its been an emotional week, a very emotional week. Housh is good friends to a lot of us, including myself.

“I said in the first half it felt a little bit like a pre-season game. Quinny and Jake dealt with everything they threw at us in the box, for me it was just about getting a positive result today for the lads which we did.”

Before the game Roma sprang a surprise by naming Jarman as captain and he responded with the perfect thank you.

Roma believed Jarman’s passion made him the outstanding candidate to be skipper.

He said: “Jarmo’s one of those players he wears his heart on his sleeves, he’s really passionate.

“I am interested in the psychological side of it with my degree in sports science and I thought if I gave him that extra responsibility it may take his mind off scoring as such and when he does get a chance he may be more relaxed and not concentrate on scoring like he has been.

“He responded brilliantly today, he was a leader for the lads and he was a positive role model on the pitch and he fully deserved his goal.”

“For the goal I thought the ball from Brogs was unbelievable and Jarmo came along and slotted it in so it was a good performance.

Going forward I want us to begin to create more chances as from what Jarmo has shown, if we create them they will get put away.

“There is stuff to build on but I’m not going to stand here and say it’s going to be like this every week, there’s going to be ups and downs.

“There are things that need to be sorted out still, from one to eleven today and the subs that game on they were absolutely brilliant and deserved that three points for me.”

The player-manager admitted he is unlikely to feature on the pitch whilst in charge at the Martin and Co Arena.

He said: “If Quinny and Jake play like that I won’t need to play. I spoke to Chris Morgan and Martin Foster who was player manager at Matlock last year and asked their advice and they said they found it difficult so we will see.

“There are things you don’t see when you are on the pitch and you can see the bigger picture on the sidelines. Obviously if I’m needed I will keep myself fit but for now we will see and I’m happy to do that.”
