Double defeat for Kiveton Park in Central Midlands

THE late withdrawl of several players prior to kick-off left Kiveton Park with a mountain to climb on Wednesday.

Park started the game well and should have had a penalty within the first five minutes when Longmore was clean through but wiped out from behind forcing his shot wide, the away side incensed.

Mansfield, who had scored 28 goals in their last three games, started to get it together and took the lead on 16 minutes when the ball fell to Haslam who was able to turn the defenders one way then the other before crashing home the first goal.

There were several bookings in a competitive battle, and on 35 minutes the home side doubled the lead with a good move down the right, a good cross tapped home at the far post by Chambers.

On the stroke of half-time Haslam scored a third after a long run with the ball.

The second half started poorly for Park who had MacPherson sent off for a second booking.

Park battled hard and and were hard done by when they were reduced to nine men when Poad was sent off for a second booking.

Mansfield then grabbed a fourth before full-time.

KIVETON wered dominated in the first half by their hosts, who missed several chances in the first 10 minutes. Only keeper Jonny Parker and bad finishing kept Kiveton in the game.

For the second game in a row Park went behind to a free-kick from the edge of their penalty area, Gallagher firing low and hard into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Park didn’t have a meaningful attack until the 45th minute when Steve McDonnell scored with an outrageous volley from a full 40 yards to make the half-time score an unlikely 1-1.

The second half was much more evenly contested with Park startingbetter and having a Carl Longmore goal disallowed for offside.

he match seemed to be heading for a draw until six minutes from time when an innocuous cross from the right travelled all the way across Parks six yard box.

Jonny Gravelle tried to guide the ball back to Parker only for his effort to be intercepted and crossed for Durran to score the winner.
