A late equaliser from Curzon Ashton meant that Brackley, in the last relegation spot, could not catch the Blues going into the last game of the season.

Speaking after the defeat to FC United, Roma was downhearted and believes Trinity have let themselves down.

He said: “They’ve done us a favour (Curzon) but it’s not been good enough.

“For 33 of them we let Housh down as a group and for the last seven or eight games we have let ourselves down.

“This season has not been good enough. If the chairman wants to give me the job next season then that is up to him but I know what needs to happen.

“A lot needs to change in the summer and it needs to be addressed, because you can’t go season to season surviving.

“It’s seven games without a win but we have lost three in eight which is how I will look at it.”

After the stressful start to management, the former Sheffield United defender still wants the job on a permanent basis.

He said: “I’ve not been worn down by it so far as I have belief in my ability and I know what needs to change as well.

“It’s not like I am going into it with ideas that it needs to be a few little tweaks.

“We haven’t performed for 41 games and that needs to change.

“I’m not going to beat around the bush, we have not been good enough and we have been saved by a team digging us out of it.”

Roma believes the supporters and the directors deserve better than what the playing squad has given them this season.

He said: “It’s hard for me because I’m still playing, so I can’t see what it looks like from the side but I could feel that some of the lads were a bit nervous.

“At the end of the day we are being paid by the football club to do a job and we have not been doing that.

“Change needs to happen because the fans are brilliant and the chairman is brilliant with the directors and we need to start repaying them on the pitch.

“We have been in positions where we have had chances to make it easy for ourselves.

“When it comes to churning out games and churning out results we have not done that as a group and we have got away with it.”
