Eastenders set the early pace in bowls league

The new season of evening league matches at Boston Indoor Bowling Club are well under way now, and all the teams have played at least one match.

Eastenders are setting the pace in Division One as they completed another 6-0 win, this time against A40, who had a bye last week.

But victory wasn’t assured on either rink until the final few ends, the winning scores being 15-11 and 13-9.

IBC recovered from a 6-0 defeat in the first week to take all six points in this week’s outing against Holland Fen.

P. Stringfellow’s rink were down 6-10 after 10 ends, but came back to win the next five ends to reach 12-10 at the end.

The other match see-sawed both ways and was just favouring the Fenmen after 12 ends,

before IBC pulled ahead, including a score of six shots on the 13th end, eventually winning 20-13.

Strollers continued their impressive start in this division, beating Parthians 5-1.

Strollers’ skip, A. Everitt, won the last end to draw their close match against Phil Markham on one rink.

On the other rink, A. Warne’s team were always ahead and eventually won 16-11.

Strollers are now second in the table and will play Eastenders next time in a top-of-the-table clash.

Royal Mail are top of the Division Two table after beating Central 6-0.

They were always in control on K. Sharp’s rink to win by 14 shots to 9.

G. Taylor’s team had to fight back from being 2-7 down after five ends and eventually secured the win 12-10.

Nomads had a bye in week one but showed good form to beat Dynamics by 32 shots to 17 and take all six points.

Initially down on M. Maddison’s rink, once they took the lead on the eighth end they never gave it up again, running out 13-7 winners.

On the second rink, the score was tied at 4-4 after four ends, but then J. Richmond, D. Cuppleditch and D. Smith pulled away and won 19-10.

Newly-promoted Pilgrims produced a dominant display in beating Cosmos, 6-0, and now sit second in the table.

Tied at 4-4 after four ends, Ted Bourne’s rink then pulled away to win convincingly by 19-7.

On the other rink, Pilgrims had the better start and were 11-3 head after eight ends, but then struggled as Cosmos, under Bob Thompson, came back at them strongly.

The winning margin for Pilgrims was only by one shot at the conclusion of the game, 12-11.

Vikings are leading the Division Three table with maximum points scored from both their early matches.

Against Patriarchs this week, they were in control throughout on both rinks, T. Marshall winning by 15-8 and D. Staples winning 19-7.

Amateurs had a bye in the first week and faced Phantoms in week two, beating them on both rinks.

Tony Nixon’s team were initially down 5-0 after 4 ends after a good start by Phantoms, but caught up and pulled away to win 18-9 at the end.

Amateurs were in control on the other rink for nine ends, then Phantoms staged a comeback and took the lead on the 12th end.

Three shots scored over the final two ends sealed the win for Amateurs’ skip Ron Spence, 13-12.

U3 and Shipmates shared the rink points in the third match of the week, with U3 just getting the extra for total shots scored.

Tied at 6-6 after 9 ends, Howard Williams’ U3 team then pulled away to win 14-9.

Shipmates were mostly ahead in the other match, but never totally in control as U3 kept coming back at them - one shot on the last end just tipped the balance in favour of Shipmates to win 12-11.

The overall total of shots scored was 25-21 in favour of U3.
