But Elliott felt that a bad day in both boxes proved costly.

"I'm devastated to be honest with you. Not the loss really, I just feel we're not getting breaks and bits of luck at the minute," said Elliott, whose side have suffered defeats to Fylde and the Magpies and drawn at Gloucester since their return from self isolation.

"Defensively we were poor at times but, first half especially, I think we did enough to score goals.

"I felt like they were in our box three times, got two penalties and a goal and it feels like we're getting punished by everything."

The Magpies were awarded two penal;ties in as many first half minutes, Elliot Newby drilling the first one wide but Connor Hall making no mistake from 12 yards, the first goal down Pilgrim Way.

Scott Leather grabbed the second as United failed to clear a corner.

For the hosts, Jordan Thewlis saw an effort cleared off the line by Arlen Birch and was thwarted by a Matt Urwin save when through on goal.

"I think mitch (Rose) missed a tackle (in midfield) for the second penalty and we defended poor at the corner," Elliott added.

"We defended really well for long periods this season and last sesason and somewhere along the line you need your forwards to have that cutting edge.

"Not to score today with the chances we had, it's not good enough really. We just didn't have the quality on the day to put the chances away.

"Whether that's sharpness or confidence I don't know, but to not score today is difficult to accept.

"We're moving the ball well, we're passing it well. But in both boxes we just lacked today.

"We need to cut out the silly goals - we conceded two poor goals at Fylde and then it's hard to get back in the game."
