Extra day’s rest a bonus as Boston United prepare for Hornchurch visit

Boston United manager Paul Hurst is happy to get an extra day's rest before taking on visiting Hornchurch on Bank Holiday Monday afternoon.

The Pilgrims gave their absolute all in last night's late 2-1 defeat at title favourites Boreham Wood, where they had led by a first half Tom Cursons goal only to see Matt Rush turn the game on its head with a brace in the last five minutes.

The win put the home side top of the table as the only game last night with the rest of the clubs playing today.

“We do need that extra day with the effort put in tonight (Thursday),” said Hurst.

“It will be a very different test against Hornchurch, but one we have to be up for.

“Just because they are not favourites for the league, we have to show that same application.

“Hopefully we’ll have a bit more of the ball and try to ask questions of the opposition.

“I will watch their game tomorrow (Friday) and hopefully we will be ready for the next challenge.”

On the defeat at Boreham Wood, he said: “I feel for the players for the effort they put in.

“We have to be truthful, we were up against a very good team that had a hell of a lot of possession.

“But we stuck to the task very well and the players worked extremely hard.

“We scored a good goal and I am pleased for Tom. It was a very composed finish. Hopefully that will do him the world of good going forward.

“Second half we very rarely had the ball to be able to get out and just seemed to sink further and further back.

“Part of that was down to the quality of Boreham Wood and part of that was a bit of mentality.

“When you're fatigued and you are being pushed back, maybe you switch off slightly.

“But we won't play against a much better team this season – they keep probing and asking questions.

“I am disappointed as we did get close to getting a fantastic result.”
