FOOTBALL: Basement side Bantalona record first point of season in Horncastle league

Spandau Pele tackled bottom team Bantalona in the seventh week of the Horncastle Five a Side League.

In a close game it was again the great efforts of man of the match Dan Hunt who helped his team to their first point of the season as his goal gave them a well earned 1-1 draw.

Tekkerslovakia racked up their seventh straight victory with a comprehensive 5-1 over Beercelona who could not contain a clearly impressive Tekkers line up who are showing great form, reminiscent of their first ever season with Leisure Leagues. Nathan Brown was credited with the man of the match award.

Ginger Gaffer lost lynch-pin striker Jack Harwood to injury early on, possibly another fracture of the ankle, and never recovered.

In his absence, despite Gaffers’ best attempts they were white-washed by a stunning and commonly seen free-flowing display from the Reds as OGFC were one goal off double digits in a 9-0 hammering. Nathan Wright just got the edge for the man of the match performance.

Due to WWFYW giving notice to miss their match due to work and Ivory Toast pulling out, a points match friendly was arranged between ISS RAFCATS and Ginger Gaffer.

A high tempo game spilled over briefly as Joe Cranfield and Jim Sharples both saw cards for each team, but apologies afterwards saw the cards rescinded.

The calming influence came from Ollie Elkington who picked up the man of the match award during ISS RAFCATS’ 5-0 points win.
