FOOTBALL: Boston League match report round-up

Coningsby’s goals came from Dwayne Sweet and Jack O’Brien (see separate match report).

A local derby game between Benington and Fishtoft was a close fought affair with just the one goal to separate the two, Fishtoft scoring midway through the first half.

Benington threw everything at their visitors but were unable to match their heroics of the previous week and came away empty handed.

With games in hand over their rivals, Old Leake travelled to Kirton and bagged all three points in an eight goal thriller, sitting comfortably at half time with a three goal cushion.

However the home side produced a much better display in the second half, pegging the score back to 4-2 before Old Leake sealed the victory ,scoring twice more to finish the game 6-2 victors. Declan Sands and Reece West scored for the Kirton side

Two of the title contenders faced each other and not surprisingly there was not much between them. Spilsby Town took the lead through Josh Wood, but Wyberton pulled it back to level terms before Liam Papworth found the all important goal to inflict Wyberton’s first defeat of the season.

Spilsby Town remain the only undefeated team in the Premier Division.

For the second week running the current champions failed to gain ground on the front runners, this time bottom placed team Pointon providing a shock.

Tom Williams converted a spot kick in the first minute for the visitors but Swineshead did pull it back to go in level at half time. Pointon retook the lead in the second period through Nathan Wilson but they were unable to hang on to the lead again and eventually the game finished 2-2.

In Division Two, Holbeach Bank enjoyed a rare 10-2 victory over strugglers Mareham United.

Mareham showed the same dogged determination as last season despite suffering their sixth defeat.

Danny Long and George Sharpe scored with a goal in each half for Pointon Reserves against Coningsby Reserves.

Twice FC Kirton took the lead in their game against AFC Tetford, but twice the home team clawed their way back into the game, eventually going on to win with the deciding goal coming in the last 15 minutes. Tetford’s goals came from Rob Morey (2) and Jimmy Harris.

Billinghay Athletic Reserves were one up at the interval courtesy of a goal from Tom Bullimore, and Charlie Gilbert found the back of the net after the restart to give them a two goal advantage.

It was end to end stuff but no further goals came until the last five minutes when Park United scored a consolation.

Fishtoft Reserves took an unlikely lead in their game against high flyers Eastern European and it looked like they were heading for a shock win until the European team struck back with two goals in the last 15 minutes to snatch a 2-1 victory.

Sibsey took a two goal lead with goals coming from Alex Cammack and Lee Waters, with Kirton Town Reserves barely getting a look-in, but after the break the Kirton side hauled themselves back into the game to level the score at 2-2.

But their hard work was all in vain as they succumbed to two further goals – Cammack completing a brace and Levi Emmanuel popping up with Sibsey’s fourth.
