The project will boost local grassroots sport through the introduction of a specialised girls’ football programme that is expected to enrol more than 50 youngsters this year, with total female participation projected to rise over 40 per cent as a result.

Disability participation will be further targeted, with The FA hosting their inaugural pan-disability league – which consists of competitive 7v7 fixtures – at the school’s new 3G pitch.

These outcomes are projected as part of the Football Development Plan (FDP) – a long-term vision for how sport will be played at the new facility – developed by the school alongside the Football Foundation and Lincolnshire FA.

The 3G pitch will be used extensively throughout the local community, with Boston United FC’s first team and Centre of Excellence delivering sessions all-year-round.

The project was made possible thanks to a £53,568 grant from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund, which provides grants towards developing new or refurbished grassroots football facilities. It is funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government, via Sport England, and delivered by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity.

Carre’s Grammar PE and sport advisor Matthew Evans said: “On behalf of our school and all of the community users we have, I would like to thank the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund for supporting this refurbishment. This investment has guaranteed that local people can continue to play football in a safe, purpose-built environment.

“We had over 1,000 different users last year and look forward to seeing that number increase. We have a range of programmes and encourage everyone to come along and get involved.”

Since 2000, the Football Foundation Funding Partners’ investment has provided 225 grants worth over £12m towards grassroots sports projects worth nearly £40m across the whole of Lincolnshire.

Paul Thorogood, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: “I am delighted that a grant from the Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund has enabled Carre’s Grammar School to upgrade their 3G pitch. This development will provide a real boost to sport in the local area.”
