For the second time this season a team failed to fulfil its fixture due to players showing no loyalty or commitment to the club or the hard working volunteers who run the clubs.

Fox and Hounds Willingham, with 29 players signed on, only had seven players willing to play in their game at BFC Birches.

Many excuses are given but the most disappointing one is that they would rather watch Premier League football on the television, which insists on having midday kick-offs thereby doing great disservice to local football.

It is very disturbing that young people would rather watch a game than play, something which everyone involved in running local football is finding increasingly frustrating.

You only play the game for a short period in your life and you certainly have plenty of time to watch football on the television when you retire.

In the league the surprise of the day came at East Drayton where the unbeaten visitors Harworth Colliery were soundly defeated by a resurgent home team who played by far their best football of the season to record a 4-1 victory.

Harworth Colliery were never at their best but the home team were very worthy winners.

Bridon AFC just held on to defeat Gainsborough Town Canute Reserves 3-2.

There was never much to choose between two evenly matched teams and the result was in doubt right up to the final whistle and both teams can be congratulated on a very good game of local football.

Haxey FC went down to a 2-0 defeat at home to Retford Town where the difference in the teams was the ability to take their chances.

The hosts had just as much of the play as their opponents but the ability to score when the chance game saw Retford Town secure all three points.

The unplayed game between BFC Birches and Fox and Hounds Willingham will now become a matter for the management committee to decide upon.
