Gainsborough Trinity face FA Cup replay after Chasetown draw

The hosts, from a league below Trinity, fought back from falling behind to Alex Byrne’s fine finish in the second half to force the replay at the Northolme on Tuesday.

Sinnott, whose side stretched their unbeaten run to six matchers, said: “A neutral would probably have said Chasetown deserved to win it but we go back to the Northolme and we know where we have got to improve.

“I am not going to throw the baby out with the bath water. We are six games unbeaten and we have done superb this season, but we made life difficult for ourselves.

“We will be favourites because Chasetown are in a league below us and not doing so well, but I never take the FA Cup for granted.

“This is what the FA Cup can be like,,, a little bit of a struggle.”

Trinity started well in the first half and then took the lead in the second period before Simon Russell went close to making it 2-0.

They were then punished for a lack of concentration when Levi Rowley levvelled.

Sinnott added: “You look at the opportunities we had and we could have got a couple more goals before it turned into an awkward time.

“We started well but it turned into a difficult afternoon — but we are still in the FA Cup.

“We stopped moving the ball around well and did not get into a free-flowing football vein.”
