Beatson joins after being released by Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

The Blues fought off competition from National League side Guiseley for his signature after a recommendation from former Owl, Steven Haslam.

Speaking about the new signing, Blues boss Dominic Roma was delighted with the new acquisition.

He said: “He’s got a good attitude and he’s a fit boy as well. He’s a left back, left centre half.

“He adds further competition to the team and he wants to do well.

“We got recommended him from Sheffield Wednesday under-21s and he did a few weeks of training before Guiseley had a look at him, which you can understand as you want to play as high as possible as a player.

“He decided to join us so I was very pleased.

“He did well against Handsworth and then he started alongside Adam Quinn against Grimsby and did really well. He’s a young lad that wants to learn as well and wants to get as many games under his belt as possible.

“We will see how the season pans out but I’m sure he will get plenty of games.”

A second trialist also looks set to join, with Roma expecting to offer terms to Reece Hands this week.

About Hands, Roma said: “I’m going to have a chat with Reece at training this week and hopefully offer him something.

“If we can agree on something then I’m sure we will get him on board and that will take us to 19 players and it will be a good squad.

“Rhys has done well in the games he has played in so far so I expect him to be a strong addition.”
