Gaughan delighted to bounce back from ‘disaster’ with win

Tuesday night’s Man of the Match Laurence Gaughan said Tigers were delighted to bounce back from a ‘disaster’ to beat King’s Lynn Town.

The centre-half, who played like a man possessed at The Walks, was bitterly disappointed to draw with FC United on Saturday.

He told the Guardian: “It took it out of us.”

“It was like a loss to us, we came out in the second half and it was a disaster, there was bad defending.”

“But to bounce back from that and get a win, we’re over the moon.”

Although he wanted all three points at Gigg Lane, Gaughan conceded that Tigers had done well not to wilt under ferocious second half pressure.

“A lot of teams would have lost that game, so to take a point we’ve done well, and to get four points away from home from these two games is great,” he said.

There was a measure of revenge in Tuesday’s win, over a side who triumphed 4-1 at Sandy Lane earlier this season.

Gaughan said: “They did us up at our place so to come down here and get three points and silence their fans a little bit is satisfying.”

“It’s fantastic that our fans came all the way down as well.”

An injury to Adam Quinn meant Gaughan had an unfamiliar partner in defence, striker Tom Denton dropping back to fill the role and earning praise from Gaughan.

“I had to talk him through everything, he didn’t know where to stand, but to be fair to him he goes and wins every single header so he does well for us defensively anyway.”

Quinn’s presence in the heart of the Tigers defence has had a visibly calming effect on Gaughan’s form, and he’s enjoying the partnership.

“I’m learning a lot from Quinny and Jan (Budtz) from them talking to me. And we feel a lot more secure at the back, which we needed,”
