Great win for U14s

JACK KALSON LEAGUE

Messingham Jnrs U14s 1

Gains Trinity U14s 2

TRINITY U14s’ first game of the New Year was away to last season’s second division champions Messingham.

The visitors started with the wind at their backs and down the considerable Messingham slope.

Trinity were getting some joy with Scrimshaw and Drummond coming close on occasions from Boswell’s free-kicks, but this made wing play and a midfield passing game almost non-existent.

They broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when a long ball from Boswell’s kick wasn’t cleared and Scrimshaw ran through to sublimely lob the advancing keeper, sending Trinity 1-0 up.

At half-time Trinity made changes with Clarke and Swain coming on.

Messingham now had the slope and wind and used it to their advantage, with many a long ball played over the top to the two big centre forwards.

Trinity’s back four dealt with the pressure well until, with 10 minutes to play, a harmless looking ball looked easy for captain Cairon Jenkins to clear but he lost his footing and a Messingham forward took full advantage to score the equaliser.

Trinity pushed forward to try and secure a win and with just two minutes remaining of the game they won a corner which was whipped into the box by Drummond and Mark Raisborough rose at the near post to head home a winner.

Trinity showed that although they like to play passing, free flowing football, when they need to battle it out they can now hold their own against any team.
