Greene looks to bolster his ranks after Pilgrims make it seven wins in eight league matches

With Jordan Richards recalled by Notts County and Zak Mills ruled out for between two and five weeks with an Achilles injury, the Pilgrims boss is desperate to add to his ranks ahead of the next National League North contest.

“We’ll be trying to bring in a defender and a central midfielder for sure,” Greene said.

“I put lots of calls in and we’ll try to make something happen.”

Reflecting on today’s 3-1 victory over Hednesford Town - the team’s seventh win in eight league games - Greene added.

“It was a good three points considering the position we were in today player-wise.

“We grind it out.

“Hednesford were fantastic in the first half, they sit in and counter attack and looked a real threat.

“We stopped their threat second half.”

Goals from Grant Roberts, Lewis Hilliard and Kaine Felix cancelled out Stephane Ngamvoulou’s opener to see the Pilgrims remain in third.

The Pitmen ended the match with 10 men after Jack Fitzwater was guilty of two rash challenges, with manager Frank Sinclair also sent to the stands.

Greene defended his opposing manager, who he believes may have got his marching orders after becoming involved in a fracas with a steward.

“I didn’t see what happened, but Frank’s Frank,” Greene added.

“He’s a passionate guy, but after the match he’ll be as good as gold and shake everyone’s hand.

“He manages like he played, with a lot of passion.

“I didn’t see what happened it was all going on behind me. I think he might have grabbed a steward or something.”
