Hard earned point

DINNINGTON Town ended 2011 with a hard earned point at Shirebrook, against a side who had beaten them three times already this season.

Steve Toyne’s men drew 1-1 with Shirebrook Town on Boxing Day, having taken a first half lead.

They began well, and could have gone ahead when Martin Wade found Kieran Gallagher, but he shot straight at the keeper on 14 minutes.

Four minutes before the interval a poor clearance from the home keeper allowed James Roper to fire into an open goal for 1-0.

Jon Roper had a chance to double the advantage 10 minutes into the second half but he shot wide.

And a defensive lapse a few minutes later gave Shirebrook an equaliser, Julian Toplis running through the defence to shoot under the sprawling Luke Hands.

Town are back in action on Monday at home to local rivals Worksop Parramore, with a 1pm kick-off at Phoenix Park.
