Hard work starts now for Clark’s Tigers

SIMON Clark has warned his players, staff and the fans of Worksop Town that they will have to work harder than ever in the second half of the season.

The manager spoke to his squad in training on Thursday night to reiterate that their success this season has come from their work ethic.

And he’s keen to keep the fans’ feet on the ground too, after the club splashed the cash on record signing Tom Denton.

“Our success and this run we’ve gone on has been because the football club has continued to work hard, the players, the staff and the chairman.”

“Just because you bring one player in, doesn’t mean that all games are going to be won, because we’ve no God given right to win every game.”

“Ferriby are in a blip, Marine are in a blip, we’re going to have ups and downs and we need our supporters to get behind the lads, behind me and being the chairman.”

“But I said to the players, the reason we’ve got results is because we’ve grafted in training, worked hard and stuck together – so we need to do that even more and then we’ll stand a chance of a successful season.”

While much of the attention has been on prolific strikers Denton and Leon Mettam, Clark says the duo can’t make Tigers a winning team on their own.

“It’s not just about Dents and Metts, it’s about who plays off them and around them, it’s about defenders doing their job, my goalkeeper standing up when he needs to.”

“From the chairman, to myself, the staff, the players, and the Under 19 boys who come in, we have to have a big, big push in the second half of the season.”

And he hopes that their work will be watched by bigger crowds at Sandy Lane.

Clark added: “We want more people down at the ground.”

“We’re the league’s top scorers, we’ve hit 48 in two games short of half a season, and no one can say we’re not a good footballing side.”

“It’s time for all of us to knuckle down, on and off the pitch.”
