Heartbreak for Trinty veteran

A DEJECTED but gracious Ryan Williams says he will look back on Trinity’s 1-0 play-off final defeat to Nuneaton as one of the lows of his 17-year professional career.

The ex-Hull City and Mansfield midfielder was sacrificed for Leon Mettam just after the hour in the second half as Gainsborough tried to in vain to cancel out Andy Brown’s 17th minute opener.

At the final whistle, the 33-year-old could not hide his disappointment as Boro’s post match promotion celebrations continued.

“It is heartbreaking,” he said. “We threw everything at them in the second half but they defended for their lives and fair play to them, congratulations.”

“But we don’t feel sorry for ourselves, we dust ourselves down and we go again.”

“They won on the day, there are no sour grapes because that is the play-offs and I hope they do well next year.”

“I haven’t felt this low for a long, long time. I think it will take me a few weeks to get over it.” But there are a good set of lads here, we need to kick on again next season because a lot of positives should be taken out of this year.”
