High stakes games as the Sunday League nears end

Sunday saw the semi-finals of both the Sporting Club Cup and the Junior Trophy.

The final of the Sporting Club Cup will feature Mattersey and MUSC who both came through tricky games although in very differing ways.

Mattersey put behind them the disappointment of losing the Notts Sunday Minor Cup in midweek with a truly emphatic 10-1 win at Elkesley FC.

MUSC ground out a very hard fought 2-0 home win against F S Clumber to book their first final place for some years.

In the Junior Trophy, Cross Keys Wroot continued with their truly remarkable season.

Already in the Trinity Trophy final and President’s Cup semi-final, they booked their Junior Trophy final berth with an 8-1 victory over Tuxford Working Men’s Club.

BRSA from Retford will be Cross Keys opponents in the final after they scored a dramatic injury time winner against King and Miller.

The only game in the Premier League saw Vine Inn Athletic win 2-0 at a luckless Kings Arms who seem to lose most of their games by narrow margins.

In Division One there is no stopping FC Sun who made it 14 straight victories to move ever nearer to the title.

Liberal Branch gave the leaders a very good game scoring three times themselves but also conceding six to an FC Sun team that has looked almost unbeatable in this division.

Marshalls Sports sit 10 points behind FC Sun with more games played but they are grinding out results and finishing the season in a positive manner.

A single goal was enough to give them the points at BFC Birches.

Canutes FC put a dent in any aspirations Moorends Social Club may have with a 2-0 home win.

In Division Two Epworth FC moved to within a point of Cross Keys Wroot after a 3-1 win at Walkeringham FC.

For Epworth this was a welcome return to winning ways after a recent dip in form and they now are only a point behind the leaders and with a game in hand.

A bad injury to a BAFC Vine player blighted the fixture against Misterton United making the 3-1 result in Misterton United’s favour seem rather irrelevant and is local footballs worst nightmare.
