Holden joins Clark’s new army of men

The lofty striker has already begun his pre-season fitness work, and is looking forward to linking up with his new team-mates when squad training begins on 30th June.

Holden, who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season playing for Brigg Town and Stamford, told the Guardian he’s raring to go.

“I can’t wait for 30th June for it all to start back up again,” he said.

“I’ve started pre-season already.”

“I joined the army when I was 16 and had five and a half years, and I believe that if you keep fit and work hard then you get rewards.”

“Fitness is key for me.”

London born Holden spent the first six years of his life in Portugal, before moving back to England, and at the age of 25 has a wealth of non league experience.

Spells at Ossett Town, Guiseley, Selby Town, Armthorpe Welfare, Brigg and Stamford have preceeded his Worksop Town career, and he’s planning to play his usual game for the fans at Sandy Lane.

“I’ll be playing up top, working hard and scoring goals, doing what I normally do as the Worksop Town number nine, holding the ball up, playing others in and getting goals,” he said.

Holden was a target for Tigers boss Simon Clark last season, and says the manager’s plans for a promotion charge resonated with him.

He said: “Last season when they went to Worksop they put seven days in for me but I was doing well at Stamford.”

“When the season ended I got in contact with Simon and we met up to talk about his plans for next season.”

“He’s got the same ambition as me.”

“Next season Worksop will be going for it, the gaffer has said that he had five targets and he’s got them all so far, so they’re making the signings they need.”

“I’ve been told they they have a great fanbase and being from Doncaster I’m very aware of the club, it’s a well known club and hopefully on the up.”

“It’s good to be a part of it.”

And he doesn’t expect to struggle stepping up from Evo-Stik Division One to the Premier division, setting himself the same target that he sets every pre-season.

“Last season was my best yet, I got 27 in all competitions.”

“The higher you play it brings more out of you, and you have better players around you.”

“I’ve played in this league before with Guiseley and I know what it’s all about.”

“I would like to get to the 20 mark again, I set that every year because if you get 20 it’s been a good year.”
