Home comforts? Greene wants Boston United to be first team to beat AFC Fylde at their new Mill Farm stadium

The table topping Coasters are unbeaten in competitive action at their Mill Farm stadium, winning seven and drawing three of their 10 matches since moving this summer.

Greene believes his side have shown enough attacking flair to take the game to their hosts, but he is calling for some more defensive rigidity against the National League North’s leading scorers.

“We can compete with anybody on our day,” the Pilgrims boss said.

“We can score goals, we are scoring goals away from home, so if we can keep a team from scoring against us then we’ve got a chance.

“If we defend like we did in the first half (against Brackley) and give away sloppy goals then Fylde will score against us.

“We’ve got to tighten up at the back, get out to press people and stop balls getting into our box - that’s been our downfall.”

With both sides playing 18 league games to date, Fylde have netted 50 times, more than double the 24-goal tally accrued by the Pilgrims.

Victory on the Fylde coast would also need Boston to end a three-match losing streak against their opponents.

Last season’s 5-2 win in the north west followed on from five minutes of madness which saw Fylde leave the Jakemans Stadium with a 3-0 win earlier in the campaign.

Another 3-0 scoreline saw Boston beaten on their travels in the previous season, although United did record a 3-1 success in November 2014, the first league meeting between the two sides.

Brackley Town, Salford City and Gloucester City have each claimed a point at Mill Farm, but Dave Challinor’s in-form Fylde have won their last six home games in all competitions.
