Housham can’t defend mistakes

Housham’s side battled manfully having been reduced to 10 men before half-time – Adi Yussuf seeing red for a reckless challenge – but were ultimately undone by a 73rd minute Ricky Miller strike.

Speaking after Tuesday night’s defeat, the Trinity boss said “We’ve just had an inquest in the changing room about the goal.”

“It’s come from Tom Ward’s mistake, and I can look back at the 26 goals we’ve conceded so far this season and say that probably 20 have come from mistakes – I can’t defend that.”

“I’ve been looking to add a defender, and that search will get deeper this week. We’re digging deep and seeing what we can find.”

Despite the disappointing nature of the defeat, Housham was pleased with his side’s performance after being reduced to 10 men in the first half.

“Adi’s lunged in with both feet. The lad has made a bit of a meal of it in front of their bench, but he deserved to be sent off.”

“To be honest, I’m proud as punch of the 10 men, we worked very hard and could have levelled it late on.”

“Had we taken our chances earlier we could have won the game.”

“I can’t condone the mistake we made at the back, but we aren’t a million miles away from where we want to be.

“Boston have gone second tonight and we matched them with 10 men for most of the game.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s FA Trophy game at Leamington, Housham said that he was looking to draw on both their earlier success against the Warwickshire side and their incredible run to the semi-final last season for inspiration.

“It’s a tough game, but we’re still confident. We’ll take the positives from tonight, try and eradicate the mistakes and look to progress.”

“Last year, we got to the semi-final and the town fell in love with the FA Trophy.”

“Can we go that far again? We’ll see after Saturday.”
