Housham orders a JD and a return to the ‘good times’ as the North Ferriby to Gainsborough exodus continues

D’Laryea was a crucial part of the Blues midfield when the club got to the Conference North play-off final in 2012 and the FA Trophy semi-final in 2013.

He left the club in the wake of financial backer Peter Swann’s departure, and signed for North Ferriby United.

Last season 29-year-old D’Laryea started 20 games for the Villagers, who won the FA Trophy at Wembley.

The former Mansfield Town player is the third player to move from Ferriby to Gainsborough this summer, joining striker Nathan Jarman and centre-half Matt Wilson.

Housham insists, however, that money has not been the over-riding factor in his ability to attract the trio.

“Jonathan turned down much bigger offers than we could match, to come back here so that shows his intent,” said the boss.

“People are saying we’re making signings and that players are coming for money, but believe me they’re not.”

“We have a strict budget that we’re sticking too.”

He believes D’Laryea will be a vital signing, having come so close to glory with the Blues in his first stint.

“JD has always been in my thoughts, since he left. He was open and honest about it when he left here, he had to look after himself financially and he didn’t really want to leave.”

“We know what sort of player he is and I’m delighted to have him back.”

“We just missed out on an FA Trophy final and we just missed out in the play-off final and he was a massive part of that.”

“I think fans love someone like him, he gives his all, and hopefully he can bring the good times back to Gainsborough.”
