Housham praises Trinity's new recruits

A bullish Steve Housham pointed out the positives following Gainsborough Trinity's 1-1 draw with the leagues' basement boys AFC Telford United.

Dwayne Samuels had given the strugglers a fourth-minute lead but Craig Reid levelled for the hosts on 18 minutes in front of 404 at the Northolme.

Housham said: “We were a little slow out of the traps at the start of each half, maybe a little quiet thinking all we had to do was turn up and the points were ours, but once we got into the game there were a lot of positives.

“We did a lot of work in training on Tuesday, concentrating on getting the ball into the box and I felt we created a lot more chances than we have managed in the last two or three games.

“Reidy showed what a good finisher he was. We haven’t been scoring of late and he has come in and shown what he is about. He has taken his goal well and shown his experience as the game wore on.

“He did a good job of bringing others into play and played a role in allowing others to get up around him and get shots away and if it was for their ‘keeper making a great save at the end, we could have been going home celebrating three points.”

The other debutant on show for Trinity on Saturday, Courtney Wildin, also received special praise from Housham.

“Wildin has a great left foot, showed maturity and good decision making, he has all the attributes to be a successful full back,” said Housham. “As we saw at the end, he even has a long throw in his armour. There will be plenty more to come from him I’m sure.

People will go away from the game today feeling entertained and that they have seen a good game of football where both sides have gone out there looking for a win. Both sides have had a lot of chances though, so really a draw is a fair result.

“You have to look at the bigger picture with things like the result today - people expecting us to go out and win four or five goals to nil - it’s just not going to happen.

“Telford went to Stockport last week and got a good result, so came here full of confidence, just because they’re bottom of the league doesn’t give us the right to go out there and win, we have to earn the right to do that and I felt we did that.

“We got the ball out wide and got balls into the box and we looked dangerous. Now we need to build on that as we have some more difficult games coming up.”

Trinity travel to Corby Town on Saturday. Corby were 2-1 winners over Worcester City at Aggborough last weekend which saw them move up to third from bottom.
