Craig Elliott joked that he doesn't recognise Andi Thanoj anymore as the Boston United midfielder continued his scoring streak.

Thanoj made his first appearance since picking up a groin injury on December 1 as Boston won 3-1 at Southport, scoring twice and adding an assist for Luke Shiels.

The midfielder has now scored six goals in his last 10 Boston games, after failing to net in his first 75.

"I don't recognise him at the minute, hes' not the player I remember," Elliott laughed.

"But fair play to him, we've missed him in the last few weeks. He's got that creativity we've lacked, and he's a good player.

"I'm really pleased for him and his second goal was a particularly good goal. I've never seen him score a header in his life."

Elliott also believes that a little more application could see the player become even more of a complete package.

"I'm a big fan of his, the lads take the mick out of me as he's one of my favourites. I like watching him," Elliott added.

"Sometimes he drives me crazy and I think he got a bit complacent when he scored a couple, but he's got that ability to player higher if he applied himself a bit more.

"He's now adding goals to his game and I've been critical of that in the past."

The manager also praised Peter Crook who pulled off some vital saves with Boston 1-0 up at Haig Avenue.

He added: "I'm really pleased for him, he's had a little wobble.

"This is what keepers do, he's the first choice keeper and he's shown a game changing save.

"That's what he's there to do. He'll have to make a few more as the season goes on."
