Jake Wright has vowed to return to the pitch the same old 'rough and tumble striker'.

Now Wright hopes he can put a frustrating, injury-hit year behind him come August. But while he wants to a change in fortunes, the mentality will remain the same.

"I'd like to think I'm coming back the same as before," the 24-year-old said.

"Sometimes I can make some daft decisions, like shouting at the ref and getting angry.

"But it's just my passion for the game. I like to win and like to think I'll still be that rough and tumble striker.

"It's emotions on the pitch. Even with the lads, sometimes we do shout at each other, but it's all because we want the best for the team.

"On the pitch is different to being off the pitch. When you cross that white line you have to have that bit of arrogance and grit. You have to want it more than the opposition."

A hamstring injury picked up in the 2019-20 play-off final defeat to Altrincham ruled Wright out for the start of last season.

Then, just as he regained his fitness, signed for the Pilgrims and made his first appearance of the season off the bench in the FA Trophy shootout defeat to Chesterfield, the campaign was made null and void

"It's been a tough year but I'm more than happy to get something sorted and can't wait to get going," Wright added"

It seems that every time I get back something else occurs and stops me from playing.

"It's frustrating but hopefully we can get straight back at it next season with no interruptions.

"I don't think I've done a pre-season for the last two with injuries and stuff. It's been difficult but it will be nice to get back with the lads.

"Hopefully I can stay on the pitch and perform."

That year of inactivity since the play-off defeat left Wright adamant he wanted to return to Boston, a place where he feels wanted after struggling to hold down a place at former club York City.

"There's reasons why I came back to Boston," he continued.

"It feels like there's a lot of unfinished business. When I've played I've played alright but I've had injuries.

"The club, manager, chairman, the lads, it all appeals to me and I've really enjoyed my time there.

"In my head it was a no-brainer where I was going to be.

"I've had that elsewhere (the feeling of being wanted), at Harrogate. But I've got that feeling back at Boston.

"The feel of the club, the manager and belief people have in me is a big part of performing on the pitch."
