It's time to see the real world, says Boston United new boy Courtney Wildin

The new Boston United signing is eager to get stuck into the men’s game once again after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Aston Villa youth teamer, 20, says he has had enough of the niceties that come with the game at that level.

“I’ve been playing under 21s football and it’s a different kind of game, the attitude’s a lot nicer,” he said.

“But I need to be playing football regularly to become a better player.

“Being at Boston gives me a better chance of this.

“I sat down with my dad and we decided Boston was the best opportunity for me, it’s a good club with a lot of fans and a team that wants to win promotion.

“I didn’t want to play under 21s again this season.”

Despite Sheffield Wednesday being in contention for a return to the Premier League after booking their place in this weekend’s Championship play-off final against Hull City, Wildin says he has no regrets about seeking a fresh start.

“I had a meeting with the club in April where they told me they were in a good position and were looking to spend some money to improve their squad,” the left back - who has had brief loan spells with Lincoln City and Gainsborough Trinity - continued.

“They told me I wasn’t going to be around the first team.

“If I wasn’t going to be around the first team then I didn’t want to be there. I’d be playing under 21s again or going out on loan again.

“Under 21s is too nicey, nicey. You play games but you don’t get the aggresive side you do in men’s football – you don’t get tackles flying in or big crowds getting at you.

“It’s time for me to see more of the real world. I’m confident I can handle the pressure.”
