JJ is planning an African adventure

Jamie Jackson, along with ex-Worksop players Andy Brownrigg and Matt Thorpe, are part of a group travelling to Uganda to do two weeks of football coaching.

And ‘JJ’ is hoping Worksop Town fans will show their support for the trip, with a number of fundraising events planned.

The striker told the Guardian: “We’re going out to Africa in the off season and hoping to do a week coaching with a Ugandan national side, maybe the Under 21s, then we’ll be doing the rounds coaching in the villages for a week.”

“We’ll be taking a good amount of kit, footballs and football boots out there.”

The group have three events lined up to raise money for the trip, starting at the end of this month. Jackson said: “On 28th January at The Mill pub on Station Road in Chesterfield we’ve got a live band and a few singers and we’ll be holding a raffle. I’m going to try and get whatever I can get my hands on from my brother’s house (Kevin Davies, Bolton Wanderers) to raffle off.”

A 100 foot abseil will follow in February, off Millers Dale Bridge in Derbyshire – something Jackson is gathering sponsorship for, but not particularly looking forward to.

And the third event is a Chesterfield Legends vesus Chesterfield College football match at Staveley Miners Welfare, on a date still to be confirmed.

Former Spireites player Jackson is excited about the prospect of involving some fan favourites.

“I want to get Ernie Moss involved, Steve Blatherwick, Mark Jules, Paul Hall, everyone we can get in touch with,” he said.

“We’ve got a meeting next week about it, it should be a great day.”

If Tigers fans want to donate towards the trip, Jackson will be leaving a sponsorship form behind the bar at Sandy Lane on match days.
