After seven years in The Causeway dug-out, three as assistant to Gary Frost and four as manager, he has decided to step down from his role with the Lincolnshire League club, telling his players of the decision earlier this month.

Current number two Jamie Hanton and Jon Macleod will take over as joint bosses next season.

Michael Smith will join the coaching team, working alongside Aidie Daubney.

“Winning a trophy would be the perfect way to go out, if I didn’t it would be my only regret that I didn’t for the club," said Greswell, who has reached three finals and three semi-finals with the Colts.

"Coming into pre-season I knew this would be my last season and met with the chairman and vice-chairman after our second game to let them know.

"Since I had to quit playing football at the age of 21 due to a hip problem, and being in the dug-out for seven seasons, I’m ready for a break and it just feels like the right time for me to step aside.

"I’m getting married in 2021 and would have found it hard to fully commit to Wyberton. It wouldn’t be fair to have a half-hearted manager.

"I’m looking forward to spending more time at home and, as I say, planning my wedding with my fiancée Amy and, obviously, spending more time with her."

Greswell, however, will not sever ties with Wyberton.

"I’m not totally leaving the club as I will take the role of secretary and organise fundraisers," he said.

"It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later as, at some point, I would want to get back in the dug-out. But when, who knows?

"Saying all that, we have plenty to still play for and still a long way to go this season, so fingers cross I can go out on a high.”
