Kane backs Roma to '˜show us what you've got'

Roma will be given the remainder of the season in charge of first team duties following the departure of Steve Housham on Thursday night.

Blues chairman Richard Kane is looking forward to seeing how the 30-year-old Roma responds to his first experience in charge of first team affairs.

Kane said of Roma: “I think he’s excellent. He’s a young person who has his UEFA B badge, a sports science degree and currently training for his UEFA A.

“He’s got a wealth of experience at this level. He’s played a tremendous amount of games for us, more so than any other player we’ve got.

“I think it’s quite right to give him the baton and say ‘show us what you’ve got’.

“We’ll see how things develop over the next few weeks. There’s eight games left in the season so if we perform then we’ll have to look at it.”

He added: “There will be no-one appointed in the short term.”

Kane offered an insight into what the club are looking for from Housham’s permanent successor, while not discounting Roma from the running.

“We’ve put our trust in Dom,” he said. “We’ll be discussing it more in the board meeting we have at the end of the season to decide where we want to go from there.

“Dom’s keen to get on the managerial ladder but it’s quite a high level to jump in at, in your first managerial job.

“That could be good though. He’s young, dynamic and got different ideas. I think he’ll bring something totally fresh to the football club.

“Steve brought his knowledge into the football club, now we’re looking to improve again.”
