Despite Sunday’s defeat at Gloucester City, the German-born stopper is earning plenty of plaudits from his teammates.

And central defenders Carl Piergianni and Scott Garner have both been impresed with how the former Notts County player has slotted in to his new surroundings.

“He has a presence in there,” Piergianni said.

“He’s solid. He punches things, he kicks well and it was great to have him in there behind us.

“It gives you a lot more confidence when there’s a keeper like him in there.”

Piergianni was also full of praise for Spiess’ concentration levels, often going long spells with little to do.

“We don’t make many mistakes as a back four, teams don’t get too many chances against us,” he added.

“If they do get chances then we need Fab to be there when we do slip up.

“He’s a great addition to the side and we look really strong at the right time.”

Skipper Garner also had his say on the keeper, adding: “He does everything right.

“You hear him when he calls for the ball, then he comes and gets it.

“He kicks everything well and he makes good saves.

“We’re looking for clean sheets and everyone on the pitch is doing their job fantastically, so we’re enjoying ourselves.”
