Kids introduced to footie

Gainsborough Town Council held a brand new football festival for local school children at Under 7 and Under 8 level.

The aim of the tournament was to include boys and girls of all abilities.

Six local clubs were in attendance to speak to parents, staff and children about becoming involved with grassroots junior football.

Scotter JFC, Blyton Bombers, Marshalls FC, Gainsborough Trinity, Forrest Rangers and Midtown FC were all involved.

A spokesperson for the council said: “It was fantastic to see some many young footballers enjoying them selves.”

“The night was cold but the smiles of the players parents and teachers took the temperature up about four degrees.”

Pupils from Trent Valley Academy acted as referees, as the action took place on the school’s all-weather pitch under floodlights.

Parish Church School football technical director John Anderson was full of praise for the children and the organisers.

He said: “Children love playing football and the festival was a great idea.”
