Last chance saloon for Tigers on Saturday

SEVERAL Worksop Town players could be drinking in the last chance saloon on Saturday, when Kendal Town come to visit.

Boss Simon Clark is at his wits end with the home performances that have resulted in four straight defeats at Sandy Lane – in stark contrast to their stellar away form.

“All I can think is it’s a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show,” he fumed.

“Getting up for teams in the top six is no problem. But we had a meeting on Monday about this and they told me they’d be on it.”

“They’ve let themselves down, ridiculously.”

“I’ve got to change things, I can’t have this.”

When asked if the Kendal game presented a final chance for some players he simply replied: “Yes, I’ve told them.”

“Two points off second we could have gone tonight, with another home game Saturday. But we had no conviction.”

“I think (a mentality problem) is creeping in at home. We’ll just work to get it right.”

Off the field Clark is closer to signing a player who can fill a spot that has been problematic for Tigers this season, and in recent seasons.

“I had a left-back here tonight, and we’ve spoken to two other left-backs,” he said.

Meanwhile Tigers skipper Stuart Ludlam insists there is as much frustration in the dressing room as there is in the stands.

The central defender, speaking after Wednesday’s defeat, said it was up to the players to stop the rot at Sandy Lane.

“The lads are frustrated. There’s an onus on us to win at home, sometimes teams come to defend and we seem to struggle to break them down.”

“It doesn’t help conceding sloppy goals from set pieces.”

“We can’t go on like this, we have to be better.”

“The fans who travel see we’re a good side, but we’re scratching our heads a little bit as to why we can’t get results at home to the bottom sides. We need to work it out.”

“Saturday is massive. It was massive anyway. We targetted six points from these two games. I just hope we get the result we need, we can’t afford to keep dropping points at home.”

l TOM Denton has had his loan deal with Tigers extended for another two months.

But the 6ft 5ins striker can be recalled by parent club Alfreton at 24 hours notice.

l WORKSOP Town defender Marc Roberts, currently on a season-long loan deal with Buxton, will not play against Tigers next Wednesday under the terms of his loan.
