Leon takes his chance

LEON Mettam is determined to take his chances as a starting striker for Trinity, after scoring the equaliser and playing the full 90 minutes at Bishop’s Stortford.

The former Lincoln City youngster scored 24 goals for league rivals Corby Town last season but has struggled to hold down a regular starting place under Steve Housham.

Mettam grabbed Gainsborough’s leveller at Woodside Park and with Ryan Kendall out injured he hopes to play more than just a bit-part role in the remainder of the season.

He said: “I’ve waited quite a long time to get a chance, it came round today and gladly I took it and got the goal.”

“After a decent performance today and a goal, I want to be playing next week but we’ve got a fantastic squad here.”

“There is a squad there for a reason and if the gaffer decides to change it, you never know I might be out next week but hopefully I can stay in.”

The 24-year-old was signed by former boss Brian Little before the start of the current campaign and his only other goal this season came in the 2-1 victory at Droylsden in August.
