Leverton in county glory

Kevin Flaherty’s Leverton cruised to victory in the ESFA County Small Schools Championship without conceding, and finished clear winners.

Opening against Linby-cum-Papplewick Rudy Campbell was on hand to score from close range and Libby Mowbray outpaced the Linby defence to seal the victory.

Billy Simpkins, the tournament’s outstanding player, and Christopher Hilbert were on target in the defeat of Hollywell, the reigning champions from Broxtowe, while the defence held firm in a goalless draw against John Blow.

In the final game against bottom of the group Keyworth Caden Burton sealed the match and the trophy with two well taken goals to bring this season’s second county title to Bassetlaw along with Bassetlaw Boys and a runners up spot by East Markham girls.

Leverton now qualify to represent Notts in the Midland Counties finals in March.

Sir Edmund Hillary were unlucky to miss out in the Large Schools finals when they only conceded two goals throughout the tournament but missing vital players were unable to find the net.

In the league Everton Girls beat Harworth Girls 3-2, while Sir Edmund Hillary Girls overcame Serlby Park 4-0 courtesy of goals from Ellie Porter (2), Hannah Storey and Olivia Marrow.
