Lincolnshire Football League: Market Rasen Town off botom after Horncastle draw

Ten-man Market Rasen Town ended a barren spell of six consecutive Lincolnshire League defeats with a 1-1 draw at home to Horncastle.

The local derby had a bit of everything, including two penalties and a red card.

The point lifted Town off the foot of the league table as they leapfrogged Ruston Sports.

After a goalless first half in which Rasen keeper Will Bradford pulled off a great save, diving to his left to deny Luke Blondel, the home side broke the deadlock in the 66th minute.

Referee Mark Webster adjudged a Horncastle defender to have handled the ball and Rasen skipper Joe Osbourne sent keeper William Wood the wrong way from the spot.

But the lead lasted just four minutes when Ben Fidling equalised for the visitors.

Moments later Rasen conceded a penalty which saw defender Aaron Ford pick up his second caution and sent off.

Rasen keeper Bradford was the hero, pulling off another fine save to push away Richard Jackson’s spot-kick.
