Athletic fell behind against the run of play early in the first half before Danny Marshall continued his good form in front of goal to equalise.

Minutes later Panthers restored their lead when a long ball forward was flicked on and finished.

Shortly after, the home side made it 3-1 from a corner, but the scoreline was harsh on the visitors who created lots of chances.

But they either failed to hit the target, or when they did they came up against a Panthers keeper in great form.

Mablethorpe dominated the second half from the first whistle, using the slight wind advantage to put Panthers under increased pressure.

The away side got their reward 10 minutes into the half when Marshall added his second of the game with another good finish.

After that Mabo continued to press for an equaliser, but unfortunately were restricted to long-range shots from outside the penalty area.

Athletic threw everything at the home side to try to get a result, but they came away with nothing.

Manager Mick Stubbs said: “We made a great effort as a team today, but just lacked the finishing touch.

“I can’t fault the effort and teamwork; we just couldn’t find the net.

“We have improved a lot as a team, and I’m sure the results will improve like the performances have.

“My man-of-the-match was Alex Carter who once again was cool, calm and composed throughout.”
