With Mablethorpe missing several players for the East Lincs Combination clash, Tetney took their chances and appeared to have the greater appetite, while the visitors struggled to get out of the blocks.

Danny Marshall had scored six goals in his last two games, but without him and other key men, Athletic struggled to hit the target.

The result, allied to Alford Town’s second win of the season, dropped them a place to second-bottom of the Premier Division.

Disappointed manager Mick Stubbs said: “After a run of good performances so many let themselves down.

“We were very slow to start and some never found second gear.

“We had played well in the last four weeks, but this time we were poor for some reason.

“We had players missing, but that’s no excuse for this showing though.

“I wasn’t happy and hope the lads do much better next week.”

On Saturday, Mablethorpe host pacesetters AFC Holton Le Clay in the league (kick-off 2pm).

* Louth Old Boys’ title hopes suffered a blow as they were held to a high-scoring 4-4 draw at All Star Panthers on Saturday.

Frazer Chapman helped himself to a hat-trick, and Gareth Pawson was also on target, but a Callum Blythe double helped the hosts to a share of the spoils.

Louth now trail the top two by six points, but with games in hand, after second-placed North Somercotes ended Holton Le Clay’s unbeaten record.

United won the top-of-the-table clash 3-0.
