The defender was told on Thursday that he was one of eight players being released by the Northern Premier League club, as the the Robins made the decision to revamp their squad by promoting a number of youth teamers.

But the former Peterborough United and Histon man didn’t have long to worry about his future as Dennis Greene came calling.

“It was mad,” Burgess reflected.

“On Thursday morning Ilkeston let a few players go and at about 3pm, the same afternoon, I got a call from my agent saying Boston wanted me to come down and train and sign.

“Literally, within a day I moved from club to club.”

As soon as Boston came calling, the 19-year-old knew it was an opportunity he had to take.

“As soon as I had the option I knew I wanted to come,” he added.

“The club’s on the up, we want to get promoted to the Conference and I want to be a part of that success going forward.”
