‘Mad’ rush for Trinity tickets

The Blues will host Nuneaton – who have sold around 500 tickets themselves – in their biggest game ever, and the town’s imagination has been well and truly captured with queues for tickets starting at 8am this morning.

Club secretary Pete Wallace described the initial rush as ‘mad’, with manager Steve Housham and some of his players mingling with supporters as they queued to keep morale up.

“It’s been mad,” he told the Standard.

“We’ve sold about 1,800 tickets so far.”

“It’s more than we thought, by about half past 10 most of those tickets had been sold.”

“The players and Steve were here to chat to fans in the queues and now they’ve all headed to the gym to train.”

Wallace believes Sunday’s game could lead to great things for the 139-year-old club, who have never been promoted or relegated.

“We’ve had some big FA Cup games but never anything like this before.”

“If we get promoted the buzz that’s around town will continue next season.”

“The chairman, the manager and the players all want to be playing clubs like Lincoln City and Grimsby Town.”

“Hopefully we can go on and win it, but regardless of the result it’s been a fantastic season.”

Trinity’s Northolme ground can hold up to 4,100 and the secretary hopes it will be full come 3pm on Sunday.

“Nuneaton have sold five or six hundred already, we’ve got the rest of today, tomorrow and Saturday to sell the rest of our allocation.”

“It could be pretty much full.”
