Manager’s persistence pays off as winger agrees to move

Tigers boss Mark Shaw’s persistence paid off, when his relentless pursuit of Marc Goodfellow convinced the winger to leave King’s Lynn Town and join Worksop.

The left sided player, who began his career with a 54-appearance spell at Stoke City, initially turned down Shaw’s advances.

He told the Guardian: “Mark got in touch around Christmas and at first I thought the right thing to do was stay at King’s Lynn, because they’d given me a chance after I started the season in the league below.”

“But to be honest Mark didn’t leave me alone, and I realised how keen he was to have me here, and I felt it was the right thing to do to move to Worksop.”

While the 32-year-old has nothing but good things to say about King’s Lynn, he’s excited by the prospect of a league title battle with Worksop in the second half of the season.

“It’s always nice when you know you’ll be fighting to the end of the season, and hopefully we will be right to the finish,” he said.

“From what I’ve seen, and what I know about the strikeforce we’ve got, we’ll always create chances and always be able to score more goals than the opposition.”

Goodfellow admits that he won’t be skipping past full-backs like he did in his prime, but added: “I can still beat people and deliver, and I like to pitch in with goals too.”
