The left back was given last Saturday off after being told he was to be released by Sunderland.

The defender (pictured) learned that he would not have his contract renewed by the Black Cats, and was offered the weekend to collect his thoughts.

“He’ll be available next weekend,” manager Dennis Greene confirmed following Saturday’s loss to North Ferriby.

“Dylan’s just been released by Sunderland, so I think that’s affected him and he just needs time to regroup.

“Today was too important a game for him to have his mind elsewhere, so we let him go this week and see how he feels.”

With McEvoy based in the north east he trains with Sunderland in the week and links up with the club on match days.

Due to that, Greene said he was unable to gauge the youngster’s mindset.

“It’s difficult for us as he doesn’t train in the week, so we can’t monitor how his head is,” he said.

McEvoy remains under contract with the Premier League side until the end of the campaign, meaning his loan stint with Boston will be honoured.

Greene added: “He’s contracted until the end of the season, but the way Sunderland do it, they tell people early.

“It gives people time and their agents time to try to find another club.

“They just get told a couple of months before the end of the season, whether they’re being offered a new contract or not.”
