Mettam injury mars Guiseley game

The Blues man took a bang to the head nine minutes into the second half and it took 36 minutes to get him off the pitch, before a visit to hospital.

Trinity chairman Peter Swann confirmed later that Mettam was released from hospital, but a jarred neck will keep him out of action for two to three weeks.

The Lions were 2-0 up by the time Mettam was injured, on 54 minutes.

A corner kick, delivered by Andy Holdsworth, was converted by Danny Ellis to break the deadlock on 14 minutes.

Ten minutes later Guiseley doubled their lead.

Dean Lisles, a first-half substitute, sent in a shot that keeper Michael Emery could only parry, and Simon Baldry followed up to find the net.

Gainsborough thought they had hit back after the 36-minute stoppage for Mettam’s injury, claiming the ball had crossed the line following a melee in the Guiseley box.

But the referee was unmoved by their appeals and play was waved on.
