Two new signings

The 30-year-old was released by Conference side Grimsby Town at the end of last season, and after an unsuccessful two-week trial with Stockport County, has ended pre-season by signing with Worksop Town.

A former Middlesborough, Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United midfielder, Hudson is keen to return to the professional ranks.

But while he’s a Tigers player, he promises to give his all for the promotion bid.

Speaking after an impressive debut at Gainsborough Trinity, Hudson explained his decision to reunite with ex-Huddersfield team-mate Martin McIntosh at Worksop.

“I’ve been in contact with Martin for the last month or so, I know him from my Huddersfield days,” he said.

“I had two weeks at Stockport, then I went to Alfreton, and I just need to be playing really.”

“Martin was very keen to have me and I thought ‘why not?’”

“It will be abit different with him being the manager and not my team-mate.”

“We joined Huddersfield on the same day and left at the same time and always kept in touch.”

Playing in an attacking role, linking the midfield and front man Jamie Jackson, Hudson’s pedigree was evident on the Northolme on Saturday.

While the Northern Premier is the lowest level he’s played at, Hudson is ambitious as ever.

“My aim is to get back into the full-time game,” he said.

“But I’m going to get my head down and give 110 per cent.”

“I think I’ve got that bit of quality that Martin said he was looking for.”

“If I’m doing well for Worksop then teams will be looking at me and Martin says he’s happy if a full-time club comes in for me.”

After 90 minutes alongside his new team-mates, Hudson gave the Guardian his first impression.

“I played with Josh Davis at Gainsborough and Matt Young at Huddersfield, but for most of them it was the first time I’d met them,” he said.

“I was pretty impressed to be honest, to say that Gainsborough are a league above, I thought we were the better team really, we have a few really good players on our side.”

Although his pre-season has been a little disjointed, Hudson insists fitness is not a concern.

He added: “I’m maybe a game behind but I’m pretty naturally fit, the games will come thick and fast and I’ll get down and graft and give it a good go.”
