Mixed fortunes for Trinity’s junior sides in youth leagues

Gainsborough Trinity Under 15s continued their fine start to the season with a 4-2 win over Messingham Juniors.

Trinity started the better, passing the ball around well and creating a couple of half chances.

But Messingham took the lead midway through the half when Trinity failed to clear .

Trinity should have been back on level terms when from only a couple of yards out Sam Trowsdale hit the post.

But he made up for it seconds later when he struck a sweet shot into the net.

In the second half Trinity started strong again and went in front when a free-kick was flicked on by Ewan McKay straight into the path of Spencer Robson to score.

It was soon 3-1 to the hosts when Jack Weatherell headed home from a corner.

A late penalty, scored by Messingham, made it a nervous ending, but Trinity regained their two-goal cushion when a cross from the right was turned in by striker Tom Williams.

This Sunday Trinity are away at Bottesford Town.

Gainsborough Trinity Under 12s have made a good start to life in the Jack KalsonJunior League.

They won their first game, narrowly lost their second and then beat Brigg Juniors 2-1 last weekend.

Trinity dominated most of the possession and skipper Brad Hardy controlled the midfield, providing ammunition for the forwards.

It was only some great saves from the Brigg keeper that kept it goalless for so long.

Trinity went ahead midway through the first half, Hardy finding the back of the net.

Gainsborough could have doubled their lead soon after but a fingertip save from the Brigg keeper managed to push a shot from Trinity striker Elliot Vasalo just the other side of the post.

Against the run of play the visitors grabbed an equaliser and with half-time approaching it looked like it would be even at the break.

But a long range shot from outside the box from Luke Crossley proved too hot to handle for the Brigg keeper and Trinity went in 2-1 up.

The second half was all Trinity, playing some wonderful passing football which frustrated the opposition into conceding two penalties.

The Brigg goalkeeper ensured the score remained 2-1 however.

Trinity could have won by a bigger margin on the day but they were the better team and kept their manager happy.

Trinity now sit joint top of the Kalson League and if they continue to play like they did today it will be a great season for them.

The boys put in a very disappointing performance and facing a strong wind were constantly under pressure.

Park Tigers scored two first half goals to lead 2-0 at the break.

The first goal was slightly lucky, the ball coming off the crossbar, only to hit the Trinity keeper Boswell and roll into the back of the net.

Trinity played with more passion in the second half and striker Tom Forbes went one on one with the keeper twice, only to hit both shots straight at him.

Gainsborough’s only goal came from keeper Boswell, who took a free-kick deep in his own half and the ball carried on the wind straight in the Park Tigers net.

Mention must go to Trinity defenders Cieron Jenkins and James Caldwell.
