Goals at the start and end of the match from Luke Blondel and Michael Harness secured a 2-1 win over Louth Town at The Wong as both sides ended the contest with 10 men.

And Stones was particularly pleased as the hosts bounced back from Saturday’s defeat to Lincoln United DS.

“It was good,” he said. “We tried to play high-tempo football after going through the motions a bit on Saturday.

“We didn’t play particularly brilliantly, but we did enough to get the win.

“There’s definitely a few levels to go up yet.”

Blondel opened the scoring in the fifth minute, only for the White Wolves to level.

Both sides were reduced to 10 men in th 65th minute when a scuffle broke out on the pitch.

Although Town claim Stephen Brown was acting as peacemaker he was shown a straight red card and will miss three matches.

But Harness had the final say tapping home in controversial fashion after the visiting keeper’s attempts to deny the Wongers saw him tip the ball back into the striker’s path, with Louth claiming the ball had already gone out of play.

But the officials ruled that the goals should stand.

Horncastle return to Lincs League action on September 15 when they travel to Cleethorpes Reserves.
