Murray tells his Boston United players to get ruthless

The Pilgrims boss was left frustrated as a series of goalscoring chances went begging on Saturday before his side slumped to a 3-1 home defeat to Nuneaton Town.

The result saw the club drop to 15th in the National League North.

And Murray believes that his side need to begin making the most of their chances to stop any element of doubt sneaking into their game.

“We didn’t take our opportunities in the first half hour when the game should have been done and dusted and out of sight,” he said.

“We feel at the minute that if we do get the first goal in the game we’ll go on and win.

“If we don’t it’s always 50-50 what’s going to happen.

“You can see it sucks the energy out of the players when they miss opportunities and chances.

“It’s a midset of ‘not this again’.

“We can’t have that, we need strong characters. We need blokes to step up.”

After picking up just three points from four consecutive home games, Boston hit the road to face promotion-chasing FC Halifax Town on Saturday.

And Murray is calling for better from his side.

“We can either cry about it or we get back on the horse,” he added.

“We’ve got 11 games to stay in the league.

“Then we’ll get to the summer and make some decisions.”

United could make the journey without leading scorer Jay Rollins and captain Shane Clarke, who both picked up injuries at the weekend.

But despite his injury list being added to further, Murray believes that if everyone can stick together then the good times will return.

He said: “Things aren’t good at the minute, things are tough.

“You’re finding out about people and players.

“There’ll be a lot of work in the next nine weeks and I’ll promise these supporters they’ll have something to cheer and be proud of.

“But now we need to stick together. If we don’t things will get tough, 100 times worse.”
